2018 Cal Poly Pomona Horsehill Vineyards
Wine Label

Design Project

The wine label was first created as a pitch for Horsehill Vineyards and Cal Poly Pomona’s annual wine collaboration. The team wanted the label to be something that would be intriguing, a clever homage to our campus for students whiles still remaining nostalgic for alumni. A canned design was also created as a way to offer a more sustainable solution.

Due to Covid, the production was delayed and handed off to current students for an update. The Horsehill Vineyards 2018 Red Blend is now available for purchase on campus!

Team Members: Julia Batterson, Catalina Hernandez, Rachel Stelzer, Emma Walstrom, and Rachel Wong

The label was re-designed by current students of the Cal Poly Pomona Visual Communications department, updated to better reflect the absence of the iconic CLA building.

The results earned gold from the 2023 Los Angeles International Wine & Spirits Competition, a competition amongst wines from 15 countries including Argentina, Armenia, Australia, Belgium, Canada, Chile, France, Italy, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Portugal, Spain, and the United States of America. www.LAWineComp.com

“The design was finalized as a 2 piece label, utilizing a specially made die-cut and a spot varnish finishing technique. Roughly 11,000 bottles were produced and are currently sold across multiple locations on Cal Poly Pomona's campus.” Tyler J. Hughey
